Report: Varejao wants one year

Oakland, Calif.- There's a published report on SI.com that Anderson Varejao would return to the Cavaliers for one season at the mid-level of exception for about $5.3 million.

The Cavs want to sign Varejao, but it doesn't appear they want to sign him for just one season. A one-year deal for Varejao means he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, and the Cavs would rather sign him to a multiyear deal or get value for him in a trade.

General Manager Danny Ferry said in an e-mail statement: "We have continually conveyed that we value Anderson as a core member of this basketball team. Once he declined the one-year qualifying offer [about $1.2 million], we thought it was in our short- and long-term interests to extend what is considered a very fair-market-value offer to Anderson and try and keep him as a member of this team for several years to come, and we communicated that to him."

Varejao's holdout began when Dan Fegan, his agent, wanted up to $10 million per season for his client. The Cavs refused based on their hopes to have salary flexibility down the road and because such a deal for Varejao is starter's money, and right now, Varejao is not a starter.

No Larry:

Larry Hughes did not play Tuesday and will not play tonight due to the bruised knee he suffered Sunday.

Hughes did not practice Monday, nor did he participate in the shootaround Tuesday.

"Went to see the doctor today, and it was what we thought it was," said Hughes, about the bruised knee. "It's about getting the swelling out and letting [the knee] calm down a little bit."

Stepping up:

No Donyell Marshall and no Varejao has forced coach Mike Brown to move guard/small forward Ira Newble to the power forward position. Newble went up against a small Suns lineup and responded with four points and seven rebounds.

"I'm playing a different position that I've never played before," Newble said. "Playing that position means I have to be more active so I can get rebounds. I have to try to somewhat replace what we're missing."

Sasha Pavlovic returned to action Sunday after his holdout and scored two points in 18 minutes.

"I felt good," Pavlovic said. "I'm in good shape. I just need a couple games to get back. This summer I worked out, but I didn't play in any games. I just practiced. I just have to get my game rhythm back."

Insomma su bc ho pronato timidamente Charlotte e in modo più sostanzioso Hornets e soprattutto Grizzlies... come già  detto nella sezione survivor la quota di Memphis mi sembra pazzesca, i Sonics sono al back-to-back casalingo dopo aver giocato ieri a Sacramento, Memphis ha perso le prime due in casa ma giocava contro Spurs e Pacers, mica Upim e La Fortezza , per cui le 0W non mi spaventano più di tanto... secondo me al prossimo scontro troviamo mezzo dei Grizzlies, ora c'è pari con h -1, io dico di prendere
