Since the weekend things have not been all good, in fact it has been a stressful and testing time for us all on the yard. However, right now it is not appropriate to to expand on that so, for the time being lets stick with the positives. The week began quietly without any runners thanks to limited or non existent opportunities for our horses in the North. Todays only runner happened to be a two year old filly I own myself , Lady Montenegro who had had only had one run before today, running with a modicum of promssie although not a huge amount. The two year old claimer at Beverly is a race we have won before but at first glance this morning, winning didn't look like an option, a solid favourite and a poor draw for our girl were not in her favour, and her starting price of 40/1 reflected her chances accurately. Rowan Scott our promising young apprentice rode her so she carried a featherweight, but beating the favourite from a poor draw looked an impossible task. George had gone through the race blade of grass by blade of grass with Rowan and due to some bad luck for the favourite who nosedived under the stalls and had to be withdrawn at the start, Lady Montenegro and Rowan travelled beautifully through the race and were well placed to strike, winning by half a length. For Rowan it was understandably a special day, riding his first winner is something that means the world to him. For Rowan, arriving home in the lorry, it was business as usual as George showed him the replay and, blade of grass by blade of grass went through it all again
