ed il cronista dice chiaramente wins by two
The hit was initially ruled a ground-rule double, making the final 11-9, but was changed to a single for the one-run victory.
il comitato ufficiale da' ragione a mello
Scoring by the book: With the score tied, 9-9, Wednesday in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded, Joe Crede's game-winning hit took a bounce in the outfield and went over the wall. Was it a ground-rule double, knocking in the runners from third and second? After some deliberation in the press box, a call was placed to the Elias Sports Bureau to determine the appropriate official ruling.
Elias ruled that as soon as Crede's drive landed and the winning run scored, it would be credited as only a single that brought in one run. There are no multiple-RBI situations in that particular scenario unless the ball actually cleared the fence in the air for a home run. The final score thus was 10-9.
