Race 1
Sultry Sound was off slow and had to be used from the inside to get the lead in her last. That took its toll and she wasn't punished late. Now, she's in the Hess barn and catches a field she can handle. Granja Vivo comes back for a young trainer who is doing well with claiming stock. She's had a breather and figures to pick up any pieces that 'Sound drops. The rail may hurt her chances, but it's a short field.
Race 2
Both Meteor Storm and Mont Saint Michel have won on this course and they have worked back well since racing. 'Storm has been patiently handled and looks like there's more in his tank. With the rail out 30 feet, Maranilla could get an easy trip up front and he needs that as his win spirit is suspect. He added blinkers in his last and regressed. Not sure what to make of that.
Race 3
The Yellow Sheet (named for her owner's tout sheet) is the subject of much clocker's buzz and Mr. ML Man makes her 2-1. Miss Thirtyfour D (hello!) returns rested and firing in the morning. Gary rides and improvement is expected. Miss Carrera has worked back sharply since taking off the hood for her last. This is a good draw for her if Mikey can ration her speed and get a late run.
Race 4
I like the way Miss Norma Jean broke her maiden. She was tons the best and took a lot of heat inside before she drew away in the lane. Lewis is good at keeping this kind going. Nighthunter Two was entered in an 6f Alw test at HOL on Dec 10 and scratched out. Her works aren't any better now than they were last summer, so I'm not expecting a lot of improvement. (These have been 3YO a whole week.)
Race 5
Scratch #8 Four Song Limit
With the rail out 30 feet, you need to be close up, or risk getting in the traffic jam where they enter the lane. Wimplestiltskin has speed and has some sharp works since his last. He should be out early for a trainer that is doing well. Erik's The Charm should be close up and it's a question of him taking to the turf. Ditto the Lukas trainee, Heroic Moment, who has worked well right along, but doesn't get it done in the afternoon. Mullins has a half-brother to Buddy Gil in here: Och Tamale. If you recall it took Buddy a while to get going and this one isn't breaking any watches in the morning.
Race 6
This looks good for Rocky Plains. Nice forward development, rest, and good works off the claim. Victor rides. No other strong opinions. The bottom horse Bustheroses is better than 30-1 and added Lasix in his last. Low profile connections will keep the price high. I could see him on the board with a clean trip. Ice Lemon And Rum adds Lasix after a speed-and-fade job.
Race 7
Magnificent Val aired in her last, and with the rails out 30 feet she could easily repeat. Gary stays on. Mr. Frankel has Theater R. N. who is 2 for 2, and Mr. ML Man says 9/5. Who knows how good she could be? Daneleta has a nice development line and some nice works. Another move forward could have her on the board in this one.
Race 8
Congressional Run comes back to the dirt and drops. This is his race to lose. Sunder Bay drops from MSW and moves over from the lawn. Memofromjessica drops and stretches out. Corey N. stays on and 'Memo has improved in the morning over his previous. Lot's of stuff going on in this one. Don't bet the farm!
