BODEMEISTER, della "Zayat Stable" e di Mike e Tiffany Moreno, allenato da Baffert con Mike Smith in sella, stavolta non dovrebbe trovare speed-burners che lo facciano spendere troppo nella parte iniziale e inoltre avrà a disposizione qualche metro in meno per respirare. 1-3/16 ml
Numero di stall il 7, lo stesso col quale si impose Lookin At Lucky nel 2010 per il training dello stesso Baffert, il quale ha vinto questa corsa anche nel 1997 con Silver Charm, nel 1998 Real Quie, 2001 Point Given e 2002 con War Emblem.

Il figlio di Empire Maker e Untouched Talent (Storm Cat) fu acquistato alle "September 2010 Yearling Sales" di Keeneland per $ 260.000.

I'LL HAVE ANOTHER era un discreto cavallo, ma attenzione al proprietario John Paul Reddam, vero mago in qualsiasi cosa abbia fatto.
Originario del Canada, diventa professore di filosofia alla Southern California Un.. Poi cambia radicalmente attività e costituisce la "Ditech" (finanziamenti su immobili) che vende alla grande nel 1999 alla General Motors, poco prima della terribile "bolla".
Si lancia nell'allevamento dei cavalli con grande successo (Red Rocks, Breeders Cup Turf 2006 e altri) e sceglie un trainer che forse è il migliore nonostante sia posposto ad altri nomi più eclatanti: Doug O'Neill.
Ebbene, I'll Have Another, venduto nel 2010 per $ 11.000 a Keeneland, viene comprato nel 2011 a Ocala nelle "Spring 2011 Sales" per due anni in allenamento alla cifra di $ 35.000.
Direi un ottimo affare...
Poi si convince che Mario Gutierrez (totalmente sconosciuto fino al Derby) è un buon jockey e i fatti gli danno ragione (a lui e O'Neill).
Ci vuole fortuna è vero, ma anche testa non vi sono dubbi.

Quindi sarà match? Le quote, intorno al 3/1 a scelta, dicono più o meno così.
Ma gli avversari sono molto competitivi e per niente remissivi.
Quindi una splendida edizione dal punto di vista dell'incertezza.

questo è l'arrivo del "Kentucky Derby" con I'll Have Another davanti a Bodemeister che aveva condotto dal via senza un attimo di respiro.
Si ripeterà stasera a Pimlico? Magari invertendo l'ordine?
La vedo dura, ci sono cavalli che sono venuti avanti nel frattempo in maniera non quantificabile in lunghezze. Fprse sarebbe il caso di cercare tra le quote a doppia cifra.

Ad un'ora di distanza dalla partenza, le quote di betfair sono orientate per il ruolo di favorito su Bodemeister la cui quota si aggira qualcosa sotto il 2.60.
Secondo me non esiste proprio; se era 3/1 per due giorni e niente è cambiato in queste ultime ore, per quale motivo il mercato UK marcia così violentemente l'allievo di Baffert?

Si direbbe un invito allettante per un bel LAY, se poi si deve pagare pazienza, ma il valore non è quello che darebbe il 40% circa di probabilità a Bodemeister.
I'll Have Another è al regolamentare 3/1 più qualche linea, ma Creative Cause e Went The Day Well non sono comparse e il loro 8/1 è verace.

Il numero ridotto di partenti rispetto al Derby favorirà certamente Bodemeister, così come la distanza più corta di alcuni metri. Ma I'll H.A. pure si gioverà di un campo con 11 partenti perchè resterà più vicino al battistrada naturale e favorito, e a Churchill Downs ha dimostrato di poter mangiargli metri nell'ultimo furlong.
Non mi resta che andare con il LAY a 2.58 e anche con una certa consistenza perchè occasioni così non capitano spesso.
Quest, ripeto, non significa che il portacolori della "Zayat" perderà o conta poco, è giustamente favorito. Ma si tratta di numeri e quelli della sua quota sono allettanti.

Went The Day Well raccoglie attenzioni in questo momento.
Da Proud Citizen e Tiz Maie's Day (Tiznow) e ancora una genealogia da studiare attentamente per il futuro, appartiene al "Team Valor Intl" e a Mark Ford ed è allenato da un altro grande protagonista delle piste USA: Graham Motion.
Quarto posto nel Derby e un lavoro rilevante due mattine fa.

Ora è terza scelta sostituendosi a Creative Cause. Ma perchè viene trascurato Daddy Nose Best? Eppure, a prescindere dal decimo posto all'arrivo, era molto considerato prima del Kentucky Derby.

Match doveva essere e più match di così non poteva.
E si ripete l'immagine dell'arrivo del Derby, pur con minor distacco (e i metri in meno contavano eccome). Ma questo I'll Have Another è veramente un bel Campione (C maiuscola d'obbligo) perchè stavolta il suo compito era più difficile dato che Bodemeister ha potuto graduare a suo piacimento dal via, andando in testa senza troppo forzare.

Lo dicevo che il fattore-Reddam sarebbe stato determinante? E che dire di questo Mario Gutierrez, preciso come un orologio svizzero, come si usava dire una volta?
Mi sa che stavolta la Triple-Crown troverà un nuovo padrone dopo che Affirmed la conquistò nel 1978 e Seattle Slew nel 1977. E Secretariat nel 1973 (a proposito, non perdete la sua storia nel film "Un anno da ricordare" che sky sta trasmettendo spesso).

A Belmont si correrà sul miglio e mezzo e, sulla carta, l'allievo di Doug O'Neill avrà compito agevole. Infatti, Bodemeister a parte che però sembra avere il suo limite a 1900-2000, non si vede chi possa intralciare la marcia di I.H.A.

ottima disamina, è esattamente quello che ho pensato io appena finete le Preakness
Bodemeister quasi sicuramente non terrà la distanza con quel suo modo di correre e gli altri sono sembrati decisamente inferiori

No, a meno sia stato messo da qualche sponsor. Ma c'è la stupenda coppa "TRE PUNTE" e questo significa, come dici giustamente, gloria eterna ed anche un valore inestimabile sul mercato per il cavallo che , per meglio dire per le tasche del proprietario

A pensarci mi sembra incredibile, ma molti di coloro che scrivono sul forum ancora non erano nati quando Affirmed vinse la Triple Crown nel 1978, ultimo cavallo a riuscire nell'impresa.

Alydar arrivò tre volte secondo, e anche questo fu un record. Nelle Preakness, Affirmed andò al comando e impose cadenza veloce riuscendo a respingere in retta l'affondo del rivale che terminò vicinissimo. Veitch, trainer di Alydar, dichiarò che sul miglio e mezzo di Belmont il suo allievo si sarebbe facilmente preso la rivincita avendo a disposizione due furlongs in più. Laz Barrera, trainer di Affirmed, ne sconvolse i piani imponendo a Cauthen (pensa un pò chi scoprì l'enfant prodige dell'epoca: Telly Savalas, il tenente Kojak ) di andare piano per il primo mezzo miglio e amentare in progressione. Risultato: Alydar dovette ancora adeguarsi al secondo posto sia pure per il minimo dei distacchi.



Ma Bodemeister non è Affirmed e non penso possa inventarsi qualcosa per vincere correndo in testa a Belmont. Altri ancora inespressi non si conoscono, tantomeno per la distanza in questione.

Per chi non l'avesse visto e vuole ripercorrere la storia di Secretariat e dells sua Triple Crown, consiglio questo film, non un capolavoro ma una buona produzione.
