La campionessa Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro) ha compiuto nella giornata di ieri un breeze di 4 furlongs (800 metri), con in sella il solito exercise rider Dominic Terry, in 49 secondi netti sul tracciato di Fair Grounds, in vista del rientro di sabato nel New Orleans Ladies $200,000 con in sella Calvin Borel Fair Grounds ha frazionato i tempi finali in 0:25 1/5 e 0:37 1/5 finendo ufficialmente in 0:49, con il furlong finale (il 5°) in 1:01 4/5. Soddisfatto Steve Asmussen che per la sua pupilla guarda sempre alla sfida contro Zenyatta (Street Cry).

NEW ORLEANS - Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra will face four rivals in her 2010 debut in Saturday's New Orleans Ladies at the Fair Grounds.

The 4-year-old filly drew the No. 2 post position Monday. Also entered are Fighter Wing, Zardana, Unforgotten and Clear Sailing.

Rachel Alexandra will be making her first start since beating older males in the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on Sept. 5. Her most formidable foe could be Zardana. The 6-year-old mare is trained by John Shirreffs, who also trains unbeaten Zenyatta.

The 1 1-16-mile New Orleans Ladies is a prep before Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta meet for the first time in the Apple Blossom on April 9.

Zenyatta makes her first start of the year in Saturday's Santa Margarita at Santa Anita.

It will be an exciting Saturday this weekend, with Rachel Alexandra and Zeynatta both racing again. Rachel will be at the Fair Grounds in race 10. Zenyatta will be at Santa Anita in race 7.

In autunno ho seguito in modo maniacale la vigilia e le giornate delle Breeders ed anche se già  sono trascorsi oltre quattro mesi, ricordo perfettamente le varie discussioni sulla prova principale ed anche la bella "doppia presa" con Zenyatta in lay nella prima giornata grazie anche ad una bella anticipazione di Bagocu(naturalmente con ante-post ,non avenda essa corso) e in back nella seconda.
Ma sopratutto mi ricordo la eccezionale prova della campionessa la quale, con la massima naturalezza, ha lasciato in partenza agli avversari un numero di lunghezze inimmaginabile per poi andare a vincere come fosse la cosa più semplice del mondo.
Troppo bella per pensare che Rachel la possa battere (ammesso che la forma sia più o meno la stessa il giorno del confronto).
Non ho dubbi, se Zenyatta sarà  quella di ottobre non ci sarà  gara.
Solo una personale osservazione: avrei preferito non si facesse questo match. Una delle due, se non ambodue, rischia di uscirne con le ossa rotte, quando potevano gloriosamente ritirarsi entrambe in razza lasciando anche uno stuzzicante punto interrogativo.
Intanto vediamo sabato come sarà  presentata "la bella Rachel".

Bene, a questo punto, sempre che questo match ci sia, siamo due provo Zenyatta, e due pro Rachel. Attendiamo nuovi adepti. Metterei anche un pò di sale alla vicenda, una bella cena in palio, magari da Lorenzo al Forte, a carico di chi perde, naturalmente.

Rachel Alexandra, who won the 2009 Preakness, will run in the Grade II FleuDe Lis at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday.

"Rachel Alexandra continues to turn in strong works," owner Jess Jackson said in a statement released this morning. "As long as she continues to progress, we intend to race her with the expectation that she will obtain her fitness level of last year. Our ultimate goal and hope is to enter the Breeders Cup in November."

Winless in two starts this year, the reigning Horse of the Year last raced in late April, finishing second to Unrivaled Belle in the Grade II La Troienne at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby weekend.
