Fallon was on board the Andrew Balding-trained Ballinger Ridge second favourite in the one-mile contest and he looked all over the winner when moving 10 lengths clear at halfway.
But he appeared to take things easy a furlong out, only to get to work when a second glance over his shoulder showed Rye and Chris Catlin closing the gap.
Ballinger Ridge could not pick up momentum quickly enough though and he was headed in the shadow of the post.
A deputation of around 100 angry punters quickly gathered outside the weighing roomand booed and cat-called Fallon on his return.
Betting guru John McCririck said on attheraces: "Punters were shouting up to me saying 'that's disgraceful, absolutely disgusting'.
"This sort of thing goes on time and again. It's bad enough when aninexperienced apprentice does it, but you back the champion jockey because you expect a champion performance from him.
"There's a lot of very angry punters and the stewards have got to take the firmest possible action and have surely got to increase the penalties when such a blatant case as this happens."
Balding said: "It's unfortunate that the horse is still a maiden, but he's been disappointing and has had 18 chances."

beh ,ho visto la corsa. kieren ha smesso di montare energicamente(come suo costume)a poco dal traguardo(terribili le nuove immagini della sis da lingfield..),forse un furlong,si è voltato e quando si è reso conto di poter essere ripreso ha nuovamente sollecitato con vigore il suo allievo..ma era ben tardi,l'altro l'ha pizzicato..il suo non era più in velocità ,avesse continuato a montare normalmente non perdeva mai..behrajan ha scritto:scommettitori volevano menare fallon
