Meehan adds to support for banned Findlay
By Graham Dench 10:46AM 15 JUN 2010 TRAINER Brian Meehan has added his name to the list of racing figures who have condemned the severity of the punishment meted out to owner and gambler Harry Findlay by the BHA last week.
Findlay was warned off for six months by the BHA on Friday following an investigation into his laying of one of his own horses, Gullible Gordon, on two occasions. Findlay, best known as the joint-owner of Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman, had also supported Gullible Gordon and was a net backer of the horse.
The owner has significant interests with Meehan at Manton, where Inler, who ran in the StanJames.com 2,000 Guineas, was moved following the sale of a significant share to the Sangster family.
In a statement on his website, Meehan said: "We are all disappointed at Manton with the decision to ban Harry Findlay for six months. The penalty seems harsh relative to the offence. We wish him well with his appeal and we are all fully behind him.
"In the interim, the horses we have in partnership have been transferred 100 per cent into the Sangster family name and they will all run in the Sangster family colours. We are particularly pleased with the first two two-year-olds, who have both won their maidens. We look forward to welcoming Harry back at Manton in the very near future and wish him and his family well."
Findlay, who has said he intends toappeal against the disciplinary panel's decision, was critical of BHA chairman Paul Roy and chief executive Nic Coward in a letter to the Racing Post in Monday's edition and said he would not run any horses in his purple colours as a protest against their "lack of respect" towards him over the case.
The BHA said they would respond to Findlay's criticism on Wednesday.

Scordarselo.
