AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the betting patterns during a tennis match in Zagreb yesterday, fanning new fears of corruption.

Betting websites yesterday claimed "an in-the-run coup appears to have been landed" after Croat Antonio Veic upset Argentine Guillermo Canas.

The wildcard, ranked 255th in the world, beat Canas 4-6 6-4 6-2.

Canas opened as a 1.11 favourite pre-match with Betfair. But, after winning the first set, Canas drifted to $7.00.

At the same time, Veic shortened from $7.40 to $1.10 as suggestions emerged Canas may have had an arm injury.

Betfair is investigating the betting patterns.

"We are aware of the speculation surrounding the betting patterns on this match," a statement on the Betfair forum said.

"Please be advised that this market will remain suspended pending internal investigation."

Tennis has endured several betting scandals, leading to the banning or fining of several Italian players.

The most infamous episode surrounded a match in Poland between Russian Nikolay Davydenko and Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello three years ago. No charges were laid after lengthy investigations despite Betfair voiding all bets.

Six years ago, betting was suspended on a match between Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Fernando Vicente in Lyon after heavy backing for Vicente, who won in straight sets.

Belgium's Gilles Elseneer claimed he was approached at Wimbledon in 2005 and offered $US100,000 to throw his match against Italy's Potito Starace.

Several other players, including Paul Goldstein, Dmitry Tursunov and Michael Llodra, said they had been approached or offered bribes to lose matches.

l'unica consolazione è che quando totosi girò la quota di troicky con zverev al 145 troicky il russo da 51 al terzo scaglio a raffica..senza nemmeno infortunarsi ( come sarebbe logico perlomento ipotizzare)

quindi occhio a dire che il match è finito, sarebbe da giocare i max del nostro sfortunato eroe...

ahahahah
