"Carl Magnay is a doubt for Hartlepool's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Sheffield United as boss Ronnie Moore gets set to ring the changes.
Midfielder Magnay, who has been a stand-out performer for Pools since arriving at the club from Grimsby this summer, took "a whack" during Pools' 3-2 defeat at home to Carlisle on Saturday and is expected to sit out the tie.
Defender Harry Worley was an unused substitute at the weekend after recovering from an ankle injury and he is line to start, possibly alongside Dan Jones who is in contention after a back problem.
Midfielder Ebby Nelson-Addy and striker Scott Fenwick could come in, while winger Kudus Oyenuga may make his first competitive appearance having spent the last few weeks building up his fitness.
James Wallace is currently sidelined for Sheffield United with a calf injury and Jose Baxter continues to serve his suspension which ends in mid-September.
It remains to be seen if Blades boss Nigel Adkins makes wholesale changes, with the September 5 clash against Colchester postponed, although Che Adams, David Edgar, Louis Reed and Callum McFadzean are on international duty.
Terry Kennedy and Ryan Flynn could make their first appearances of the season, while Adkins is expected to continue monitoring the transfer market as his injury worries mount.
He told the Sheffield Star: "We are actively looking to bring a couple in before (the transfer window) shuts. But there are no guarantees. There never are."
