Beveren - Heusden
Beveren is the most unpredictable team in the Belgian Jupiler league. They
are able to win against each team and play a good part of match, but sometimes they miss the other part of the match or all the match....
The last week, it was 0-2 at Westerlo - Beveren and the final score was finally 3-2... Beveren have finally only 3 pts and the weakest defense in
the league (13 goals conceded in 5 matches). Perhaps that the defender Stepanovs (on loan from Arsenal) will play his first match, this week-end.
Beveren has the best goalscorer in this league : Kipré Kaiper, with 5 goals.
We can not say that the promoted Heusden is a good team ... They have only 2 pts and are one of the 4 bottom teams in the league. It's logical, they are not good. They are still goalless after 5 matches ...They have lost the last week against St Truiden at home (0-1). They have huge goalscoring problems.
Beveren is here the favorite and I think that they will play their usual offensive soccer and probably score some goals. But as Heusden have not scored yet, the "over" is not so sure.
No bet.
RC Genk - Mons
Genk have suprised many people with their last away win (0-1) against tittle candidate Standard. They have played as a well organisated team, mainly after their goal. The midfielder Thys and the defenders Zokora/Moekona have impressed very much. Daerden (back from injury) have scored Genk is now at the third place and as they are a strong home team, they will be hot favorite here. They only have the long term striker Kpaka still injured, and the rest is fit. Genk looks difficult to beat with full squad.
Mons is at the bottom. This team who have finished at the 9th place the last season have not changed very much, and they play very bad. What's the matter ? Difficult to know in fact... The coach Grosjean have talked with the "big" players of the team the last week (Suray / Joly / Ciobotariu) but nothing have changed; Mons have lost against against Lierse 1-3. Mons doesn't have team problems. Only the left midfielder Gadiaga will probably still miss the game. The coach Groesjean is very menaced now and I think that he will be sacked is Mons loose at Genk AND if they play bad again. To loose at Genk can happen, but they have - at least - to show something.
I've heard (I'm from Mons) that the players want a new coach ...
Even the last season, Mons was poor on the road, and here I don't see
another result than a home win. But the odds are low and Mons can create the surprise if they want to save their coach (?)
Pick : Home
Cercle Brugge - Standard
As I have already said, Cercle is the weakest team in this league; and the fact that they have 5 point won't change my opinion. They have lost easily 4-0 at Mouscron the last week, and Mouscron had strikers problems this day... (Mbo Mpenza injured/Zewlakow injured after 15 min). They don't have many fans at home; their best player (mid) Meyssen is doubtful.
Standard have lost their last match 0-1 at home against Genk...Many people - me too - thought that they would eat this Genk team. But it was not the case ... The three "new" players have not playd (Mumlek played 15 min, like Emile Mpenza; Sorondo was injured). Many Standard players have not played - strangely - at their real level.
This time, they have to have a reaction after this bad performance. The players will be motivated to take the three points at poor Cercle. The def
Sorondo is fit now, Emile Mpenza is at 75 %. I think that Emile will still
be on the bench this time.
I wait a reaction from the Standard players.
"To lay" Cercle seems the safest option here.
Pick : Away win
La Louviere - Mouscron
After the Home goalless draw against Charleroi, Louviere have made a second goalless draw against GBA on the road. They have now 7 pts in 5 matches; the team is considered as a "average/good team" and their strong point is that they are well organisated with their excellent coach Ariel Jacobs (ex assistant coach of the National Belgian Team). Nothing special about the team news, but we have to know that they will play against Benfica the week after and the La Louvieire players are "small minds" and won't take a risk to be injured for this hot match. The La Louviere players are "hot" since they know that they will play against Benfica. La Louviere is a small club and it's very special for them to play the UEFA cup. The La Louviere players are already crazy ...
On the other side, we have a Mouscron team who plays good since the start of this competition but they have only win the first time against Cercle (4-0).
I have to admit that Cercle was poor and that the main raison of this 4-0.
Mbo Mpenza will probably still be injuredfor this match but I don't while Zewlakow will probably be able to play . So, we could have here Pieroni (not bad) and Zewlakow in attack at Mouscron. No special other team problems. The confidence will be good at Mouscron after this first win.
La Louviere will be favorite, but in these week-end circumstances, the draw is probable too.
Pick : draw
AA Gent - Charleroi
AA Gent have taken a draw at FC Brugge. Brugge have missed many chances and Gent have played a very defensive match; these things can happen. The Gent players said "we don't have to make the play at Brugge; they are a champion's league team and they have to show good things, not for us". Gent is now at the 5th place and are a UEFA cup candidate. However, they have not impressed a single match this season.
Charleroi ... Damn. Not a single goal scored in 5 matches. They have a good defense (4 goald conceded in 5 matches) and the midfield show sometimes good things. But without to score, you can't win a match. They have lsot the last match against Antwerp just because Antwerp is a more realistic team.
Charleroi will have Olufade (striker) available for thid match, The def Sama and the midfielder Oulmers are injured. Charleroi will go in Gent to try not to concede a goal and to play with counter-attacks.
AS Gent don't play a so attractive soccer, we could have a boring match
without many goals...
Pick : draw.
Anderlecht - Westerlo
Anderlecht have all won so far, and they will play this match after a hard Champion's league match at Lyon. As Anderlecht have a good Group and good reserve players this season, I don't think it will be a problem for them.
The coach can choose 3 or 4 good reserve players if He estimates that it could be good to rest the "A" players. The def Olivier Doll have missed the Lyon match and will probably miss this match too; the coach Broos won't take any risk with him. They will probably win this match too.
Westerlo is not a bad team, and they desserve perhaps more than the 6 pts they have. However, as Anderlecht looks unstoppable, they won't have an easy task; their playmaker Svoboda is still injured.
Not so much too say, here, in fact.
Pick : Home
Lierse - Lokeren
Lierse have won the last week in Mons 1-3 without any good striker... We knows that Huysegems have left the club for AZ. The coach Ferreira have playesd with Tohoua and Imschoot, who can not be considered as "good". But they have won... Lierse is now at the 5th place and even if we don't hear many things from them, they are in a good place. This time, the striker Gilles De Bilde (from Anderlecht) will probably start the match whith the new player Tchoutang. There are good strikers. Now, they will face a Lokeren tteam who have NOTHING shown yet; this team involved in the UEFA cup have only 2 pts at the moment and in a relegation position. The alst week, the plamaker Krintinsson was on the bench want the coach said "not in form".
Kristinsson was very unhappy and prefferred to sit on the grass, not with his "bench" partners... I estimate that Lokeren is not able to make a good result at Lierse at the moment. When did they start to play a good match ?
Pick : Home win
St Truiden - FC Brugge
ST Truiden is at the 7th place at the table with 8 pts. But they have played 4 times away and only 1 match at home so far. St Truiden loks not so strong than the last season; the players have not changed very much but the other teams know well their tactical system (long ball) now. No team problems before this top match. I wait a good match from Mendoza (striker Brugge - 5 goals so far) after his red card againt Celta Vigo.
FC Brugge will go in ST Truiden after their hard match in Champion' league against Celta, where they played with 10 men during 45 min. However, the match will be played on sunday, so 5 days to recover, it's good enough.
We have here two physicals teams and Brugge likes to play agaisnt a more physical team (like Dormund). I think that Brugge will win at St Truiden want they have already 4 pts less than Anderlecht.
Pick : away win but for odds above 1.75
Antwerp - GBA
HOT HOT DERBY !
Full stadium , this Anvers derby.
If there is one match to win in the season for the fans , it's this one !
There are more fans for this match than against Brugge or Anderlecht.
Both teams are more or less equals; 6 pts for GBA and 7 pts for Antwerp.
It's very difficult to predict which team will be stronger here... Their form is "average". There are usually many goals in these derbies, so the "over" looks probable. No special team problems for both teams. In a general point of view, we can say that Antwerp has a more experienced team and a more experienced coach.
Antwerp favorite for me.
Pick : Home win
