I hope you'll a better "global view" of each team before the start of the competition.
PREVIEWS
BRUGGE
Brugge have won the tittle the last season, and finally it was very easy.
They had 17 pts in advance in January. As usual, Brugge doesn't buy many
players, and buy always "unknown" players...But they always buy good or
very good players. This time, they have bought Rozenhal (Def) in Sigma Olomouc, Butina (International Croatia Gk at Dynamo Zagreb) and
Gvozdenovic - Lef Mid - (Red Star Beograd)... Once again, there are three
good players and I don't have any doubt that they will be very interesting
for Brugge.
Moreover, the striker Saeternes was injured during a long time the last
season and is fully fit now.. He have already scored many goals in the
friendly matches.
Ristic, De Brul, De Wulf and Schockaert have left the club but they have not played at all the last season, or not many matches. NO ONE key or regular have left the club, and Brugge have made good financial effort to keep their captain SIMONS in their team (Schalke had given many money for him).
Brugge looks still strongest than the last season. Their main target is to
go to the Champion's league Groups; they have to play only one Preliminary round, they it will be against a strong opponent.
This ambitious Brugge is without any doubt the favorite for the tittle -
probabilities 41 %
ANDERLECHT
The last season, they have lost many points in the 20 first matches of the
competitions and have played many beautiful matches at the end. They have lost their last competition match but before that they had won 8 times in a row. They have fighted for the second Champion's league spot and will
finally play the champion's league with Brugge.
In mid-season, the coach Brois have changed some "old" players and have
replaced them by young ones, and that was finally a good idea. The def
Midf Junior have taken the place of Vanderhaeghe, Lovré have taken the
place of De Bilde. Dindane play now as striker in place of Right Midf.
A team like Anderlecht have to win the tittle each three years Max.
As Brugge, Anderlecht have not lost any key or regular players; however,
some big teams have a look on Dindane, Jestrovic, Baseggio. There is a
possibility that one of they leave finally the club.
They have bought the "Anderlecht child" Zetterberg in Olympiakos; this
playmaker have played during 4 /5 years in Anderelcht before and he is
back in the club now. The another new signing player is the 22 Y old
Swedish player Wilhelmsson from Stabaek. It seems that it's a good player.
The Anderlecht's president have said that all the players will stay in
Anderlecht if they are qualified for the Champion's league Groups. If not,
some players could leave the team.
With this team, Anderelcht is strongest than the last season and they have
for sure a chance to win the tittle.... They could make a very good
Champion's league season as 4 years ago...if the players stay !
If I compare Anderlecht and Brugge, I'd rate them 50/50 with Brugge but ... if Anderlecht sell players, it will be more difficult for them... So I
see more chances for Brugge this season -Probabilities 36 %
STANDARD
Standard is a very special team in Belgium. Their last tittle was won 20
years ago, but each season it seems that they can win the tittle....But there is always a problem there. The fans give many pressure on the staff
and on the players. The staff take too many bad decisions and the players
doesn't want to stay at the club too many times. The coaches change very
often and it's not possible to work there in a "long term" view.
The last season, they have not won any UEFA cup spot, and they were out of the Belgian Cup against La Louvieire; the cup was the biggest disappointing result.
Standard have lost the ex International playmaker Walem (Torino),
Soderstrom (back in Porto), Afolabi (Austria Vienne), Meyssen (Cecle
Brugge) and Aarst (Tromso).
Meyssen have not played many matches, like Walem. But the Def Midf
Soderstrom was very important the last season... The def Afolabi have
played some good matches and Aarst was the 2nd top striker in the Belgian jupiler ligue.
But Standard have bought Kimoto (Off mid - Lokeren), Bangoura (top striker - Lokeren) and kaklamanos (top striker - Gand) to replace them.
They will have a great attack but it seems that their defense and their
def midfield will not be strong enough to create the surprise. I see still there some staff errors.
In the friendly matches, they have already taken many stupid goals and I'm not optimitic for their chances to win the tittle.
However, Standard is aways Standard - Respect - and I have to admit that I see them to finish at the third place - Probabilities for the tittle 8 %
LIERSE
With Lokeren, it was one of the surprise the last season. They have
fighted for the 2nd champion's ligue spot with Anderlecht and Lokeren, but
they have had some injury players in the last 10 matches and have only won a Intertoto cup ticket, only 3 / 4 pts behind the UEFA cup spot (Lokeren).
They have the more ambitious and better coach in Belgium (Emilio Ferrera)
and they have keeped him. He wants to make something good in Lierse.
As always when you have good players in Belgium, some biggets clubs are
interested in these players : Palermo has an eye on the top striker
Huysegems and Bastia has an eye on striker Koné.
This season, they have bought the ex International player 32 Y. Crasson
(Anderlecht - end contract), who is an interesting experienced defender
for them. Empoke (Mouscron) and Gadiaga (Mons) have left the club but they were not regulars.
Lierse will be strong this season, but for the tittle it's anotherhistory. However ... If they can keep their players, a surprise is not impossible - Probabilities for the tittle : 7 %, but a UEFA Cup place seems more realistic.
GENK
Genk was the surprising champion two seasons ago, and have disappointed
the last season. this disappointing result was a surprise because they had
keeped all their key players. Now, many people said theat these players
have played above their real level and that such a surprise doesn't come
two seasons in a row.
This season, they have selled their two best players : Sonck in Ajax and
Skoko (mid) in Gencerlirligi (Turkey).
They have taken the striker Kpaka in GBA and it seems that the topscorer
Roussel (Mons) will come in Genk is some days. The Ajax Defender Moekoena (Ex GBA) have signed there too, and ti's an interesting player.
However, Kpaka is injured during 4 months and will already miss many
matches. Skoko is a huge loss.
It's difficult to see Genk champion ... But they have many abonnees and
sometimes the "unknown" players play better when the top players leave the club .. you never know - Probabilities 6 %
GAND
Gand is usually a team who play for the UEFA cup spots. The last season,
they have missed their target. The coach Riemerinck had not enough experience and came from the young Ajax team as coach. He needed 6 months to know his team and Gand have missed their start of championship; even if they have played a good end of season, it was too late for the European places. The coach is still there, and the team is "equal' if you compare with the
last season. Kaklamanos is a huge loss but De Brul (def) is a very good
player who had not his chance in Brugge, like the good midfielder Zezeto.
Players in : De Brul (Bruges), Jarakovic (C team Anderlecht) - Theunis
(Beveren) - Zezeto (Beveren)
Players out : Schepens (Bregenz - Austria), Kaklamanos (Standard), Cipi
(Francfort)
Probabilities : 0.8 %
LOKEREN
Lokeren have surprised many people the last season, and they have finally
taken the UEFA cup spot at the end. They have any Ilandic international
players and many African players, with a very few number of Belgian
players.
All the islandic players are still in the team, but their top striker
Bangoura have left the club. Ekonga (two times best scorer in Cameroon)
will replace him but we doesn't know exaclty his level.
Will they surprise again ?
Probabilities : 1%
Sint Struiden
ST Truiden have finally lost the Belgian cup final. It was finally very disappointed for them after a good season in the championship. They have played a bad final and La louviere have taken profit of this situation.
They have not taken a single player, and have not bought any player (only
unknown names).
The captain Boffin has still 1 Year more (37 now) and they are expected to
finish around the 8th place.
MOUSCRON
Mouscron was a HUGE disappointment the last season. They have a team to fight for a UEFA cup place and they have fighted to avoid the relegation ... The president had taken the ex Mouscron and itnernational player Staelens as coach but he is no mor taken ... Mouscron have taken the experienced coach Leekens (already in Mouscron some seasons ago) to replace him. As Leekens have already made good things in Mouscron, I'm optimistic for them, and they are able to make a good season this time.
They have bought Pieroni (very good young striker from D2). Crv and casto
have left the cub - no regulars.
They will try to fight for a UEFA cup spot.
LA LOUVIERE
La Louviere will be in UEFA cup after to win the Belgian cup... a big surprise in Belgium.
This mid-table team has a very good coach : ariel Jacobs, and they can to
thank him. The balgian cup was a very good tactical lesson given by him.
They have not bought or selled many players "just for the UEFA cup". Camus is back in Belgium (from Manheim), and the Gk Van steenberghe (played the match of his life in the final) is now taken as third Anderlecht Gk. They have bought Susnjara (2rd Standard Gk) to replace him.
Mid-table again for them.
MONS
Hm. Mons, the town where I live. They have made a very good season after being promoted, mid-table was a good result. Now they have begun to make "works" in their stadium and their legendary "home atmosphere" will not be the same that usually ...
Their top striker Cedric Roussel have left the club, and some interesting
players are now in the team : Casto (Mouscron) Willockx (Gk - Mechelen),
Gadiaga (Lierse), Gomi (Striker - Duisburg).
There will no more be a surprise the the other teams and I see them a
little bit weakest than the last season. However their team is strong
enough to avoid the relegation.... Hopefully.
ANTWERP
This Manchester United partner team will try again to avoid the relegation. Two young players from Manchester and "on loan" (Fox and Heath), while Yattara have signed in Trazbonspor.
Nothing special here... their striker Goots has still one year more (37) and soon or late they will have many problems to avoid the relegation ...
BEVEREN
This team ha the particularity to have many African players. They have a partner centre in Ivory Coact and sometimes one players come from Africa.
Moreover, this is a Arsenal partner team. Arsene Wenger have to see whcih
players he doesn't need and to give them "on loan" in Beveren. So, Beveren will have some young Arsenal players soon.
They have lost their good african Midfielder Zezeto and they could meet
problems this season ...
Not sure that their African players will "shine" again this season ...
WESTERLO
Westerlo is weakest than the last season and will fight to avoid the relegation IMO. They have only bought Janssens from Willem II, but they have lost Hoekfens (GBA), Dauwen (stopt his carreer); Willemsen (Gand but will prhaps stopt his carreerr- injured), and Sammy Vandenbossche (La Louviere).
CHARLEROI
Charleroi have had many problems to stay in the 1st league the last season ... They have had some luck that Lommel and Mechelen were finally relegated for financial reasons. Of course, they have finally finished above these two teams but only because Lommel have not taken any point on their last matches...
Charleroi have choosen tot ake some French players "without contract", who
have played matches in D2 the last season (France) or some in D1. It seems hat they are not bad.
Ciani come from RC Paris, Chabaux from nancy, Oulmers from Amiens, Olufade from Lille.
Kolotiko is back in Russia, Remacle in Oberhausen.
How strong are those french players ?
I don't know, but I feel that Charleroi can be a little bit strongest than the last season, but their financial situation is still very bad ...
Another Lommel or Mechelen history ? Not sure, they have the politics with them.
We will only have a good idea of their potential ater 5 -6 weeks.
GBA
This second team from Anvers have sacked their coach Vander Els and a D3 coach (Brys) is coming without any experience. They have stoped their
cooperation with Ajax and won't have any Ajax player in their team now.
They have lost Moekona and Kpaka + Obodai ... Three good players / and
have only bought Schokaert (Brugges) and Hoefkens (Westrlo), and not nough ...
GBA this season will have problems ... I don't feel them.
HEUSDEN
This promoted team is the second team from the town "Genk".
In fact we can call them as "Genk B".... Why ? They will play in the Genk stadium... They will give at Genk 10.000 EUR each two weeks to play on the
stadium. They have many "on loan" players from Genk. These players are now
happy to play in the same town, for the same wages (Genk pay their wages),
and in D1.
Some D1 teams have already said that it's not logical to have a kind of
GENK B in div 1 ... If Heusden needs points to stay in the d1 league, no
doubt that Genk could help them to give them points .. ot to beat their
opponents !
Heusden will try to stay in D1 - wait and see
CERCLE BRUGGE
This second promoted team will play in the same stadium than FC Brugge,
but the situation is different. It's the Brugge twon who gives the stadium , and no one pay anything at the town. The "Cercle - FC Brugge" are not
"hot" derbies but stay derbies ... Cercle has not many fans.
But their team this season is not bad at all. They have bough Meyssens at
Standard, De Wulf in Brugge and their other players are not bad.
They will try of course to say in the league, but I feel them good.
----------------------------------------
Belgium 08/08 - 10/08
Here this is a first preview I've made for the first day in Belgium.
I will post my predictions on saturday. One match on sunday (Brugge - Genk) and I stay away.
Mouscron - Standard
After a very bad season, the ex Mouscron coach Leekens is back in the team. The coach Staelens was kicked out. It's now sure that Mouscron will be more organisated but it will probably not be neough to finish in the top 8. Mouscron have only signed the striker Pieroni (best d2 topscorer) and some "B" players.
Standard is, as usual, a tittle candidate and their attack is their strong point this season with Bangoura (Ex Lokeren) and Kaklamanos (Ex Gent). They will try to win this first match and they can be considered as slight favorite in this small derby, even if it's never easy for them to win in Mouscron (2/1/2 in their last 5 matches in Mouscron).
Moreover, Mouscron will have some players unavailable : the striker Zewlakow is suspended, like the midf. Gregoire / the def Coulibaly is injured, and all the othe defenders are a little bit injured and are doubtful, but should play - not 100 % fit.
Standard will full team, favorites here.
Beveren - Gand
Beveren will try to avoid the relegation; they have lost their top striker Zezeto who have signed in ... Gand. Gand is a possible suprise this season, with good signing players like Zezeto, De Brul (Bruges) and Verschuere (Sedan - France). Kaklamanos and Schepens have left the team.
At Beveren, the playùaker Yaya Toure is injuured, the gk Copa is unavailable; at Gent, Peeters (def) and Zezeto are unavailable.
Gent can be considered as favorite at Beveren, and the past results are often in Gent's favour (0/2/3). Poor probabilities for a draw in Beveren's ground.
Anderlecht -Antwerp
This season, the Anderlecht coach has two players for each place in his team. The team has more quality than the last season and even the playmaker Zetterberg was on the bench against Rapid Bucarest in Romania. In the past, Anderlecht have never had a signle problem to beat Antwerp at home (3/0/0 last 5 years) and I don't see any reason to see a change here. Vanderhaeghe (mid), Junior (Mid) and De Boek (def) are injured in Anderlecht but will be easily replaced.
Antwerp is one of the two baddest teams this season in d1. They have signed Fox and Heath "on loan" from Manchester United while Yattara have left the club. Merdir and Ljubinkovic are injured for a long time and they have now a poor team.
Anderlecht HOT favorite against Antwerp, and IMO they will "eat" them ...
Westerlo - La Louviere
Westerlo wil play to stay in the 1st league while La Louviere is a team who can surprise this season. Westerlo was por the last season and they have signed Janssens( Willen II) and nobody else... La Louvieire will play the UEFA cup and they have bought good players like Camus (mid) and Djemba-Shango (Lille), or vandenbossche (Westerlo). They have played a good matchin Brugge for the "supercup" (1-1) and have shown good thing again. Since they are in D1, LL have won the two times in Westerlo. They play organizated style and they like the counter-attacks.Even if Weterlo play at home, I like La Louviere here.
I'll wait the last team news for a pick.
Heusden Zolder - Cercle Bruges
Match between the two promoted teams here. Heusden Zolder is in fact "Genk B". They play on the same ground and they have 6 or 7 "on loan " players from Genk, like Suzuki (international Jap player). Both teams will try to avoid the relegation and it seems that Heusden is trongest than Cercle. they have more "experienced players" in their team. They have signed good players like Haeldermans (Lierse), Nielsen (Gent).
Cercle will count on Jbari, Meyssen, and Svelticic to have enough experience in the team.
Heusden in favorite for me at home and it could be a pick from me ...
Club Brugge - Genk
Top match this week-end, will be shown at Canal Belgium. Brugge have not played good pre-seasons matches and it seems that the coach Sollied have not found his team yet. They have lost 3-0 and 0-4 against Monaco and Hertha and only drew 1-1 in the Supercup against La Laouvieire with their first team. They will try to win against Genk to have enough confidence before the important Champion's leagues matches against Dortmund.
Genk have selled Sonck and Dagano, but have bought Kpaka and Roussel to replace them, but Kpaka will be injured the first 3 months. The good defender Moekoena have signed from Ajax. They are expected to finish in the top 5.
As the last season, Brugge will probably be too strong at home and are still favorite here. 4/0/1 in their last 5 matches at Home against Genk.
Charleroi - Lierse
Last 5 head-t-heads in Charleroi : 3/1/1
Charleroi has still financial problems and due to his fact they are considered as candidate for the relegation; the team is not so bad, but they will play here against a Lierse team who is ready after their Intertoto Cup matches. Charleroi have bough some French players "without contracts" from D1 and D2 and we have to wait if they are strong enough for the belgian d1.
The Lierse coach Ferrera is ambitious and they can still finish in the top 5. As the past results were mainly on Charleroi's favour, we have to stay cautious ..
GBA - MONS
It will be a difficult match to predict, even if I think that Mons can't win in GBA. GBA has a new coach (BRIJS) who have never coached in D1 before. They have lost Moekoena (def), Obodai (def) and Kpaka (striker). Mons is still a good team, but they have no more the top striker Roussel in their team. They have bough Casto (Mouscron), Gomis (striker), Gadiaga (Lierse), all good players. Mons was a poor team on the road the last season and it's never easy to win in GBA. Both teams are expected to finish in the top 12 and GBA is logical favorite at home. The mOns problem will be that they have only 1 striker at the moment (Gomis) and he is not 100 % fit. He was injured the last week.
Lokeren - St Truiden
3/1/1 last 5 years.
A match between the two suprising teams of the last season. Lokeren have selled Bangoura and Kimoto (Standard ) and the Camerounese striker Ekounga have been bought, but he have not scored many goals in the friendly matches.
From a general point of view, Lokeren have not played good matches so far in the friendlies and it's not a good sign at all. Bangoura was very important the last season in their style of play.
At ST Truiden, it will be difficult to surprise again. Boffin (top mid) has still one year more (39 now) and was injured somedays ago. Their good mid Gretarrson have not played a single friendly match (injured) and it's not sure that he will begin the match. At St Truiden only the def Vrancken is injured.
Lokeren favorite at home.
I hope you'll a better "global view" of each team before the start of the competition.

Zolder @2.20

Gent level ball @ 1.85 Fonbet
