Mahindra United + Dempo/Viva Kerala over 2,5 a 4,63@bwin. Investite 7u
*Mahindra hope to break winless streak
Wednesday, 11. November 2009 - Anthony D’Souza (GW)
The defeat to East Bengal in the last encounter have dented Air India's record at Fortress Cooperage and Mahindra United will be hoping to inflict further damage when the two clash in the Mumbai derby on Thursday.
With 11 points from seven matches, Mahindra United are fourth in the table while their rivals are third from bottom with only five points from six games.
Former national league champions Mahindra United have missed the chance to go top on more than one occasion. Their last four matches have ended in draws and the eight-round I-League match presents them with a chance to get things in order.
Absence of three key players will bother Mahindra United coach David Booth. Svetozar Mijin and Sushant Mathew are suspended for the match while Steven Dias is out after sustaining a knee injury against Viva Kerala.
The knowledge that Air India won't be in full strength will perhaps be of some comfort to Booth. Central defender Behnam Foroughirad and goalkeeper Arnab Das Sharma will miss the tie against Mahindra United after colliding during their match against East Bengal. Moreover, Henry Gangte and Soccor Velho too are suspended for the encounter.
The only good news from Air India’s point of view is the return of striker N.D. Opara, while Mahindra United's defence will welcome back Nishtar Kalialaudeen.
"We have players missing. We are not having a settled team due to too many yellow cards but we know Mahindra United and Air India have some history and we know we have to be ready for that," said Booth.
In the past, Bimal Ghosh's team has been known to put it across more fancied rivals but Mahindra United will hope to get the record straight this time around.
Incessant rains that have lashed the city for the past two days will make the turf a difficult proposition and whoever adapts to the conditions best will have a chance to come out on top.
*Dempo face Kerala youngsters
Wednesday, 11. November 2009 - P.S. Parameswaran
Dempo's clash against Viva Kerala in the eighth round of the I-League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, will be a contest between experience and inexperience.
Dempo have seven India internationals in their squad and immense experience playing in the top tier of Indian football. On the other hand, the club from Kerala has a bunch of youngsters who are yet to prove their mettle.
On Thursday, Dempo are likely to be without the injured Samir Naik and Mahesh Gawli. In their absence the back four has been struggling off late which Viva Kerala will hope to exploit.
Much will depend on the partnership between Sunil Chetri and Ranty Martins Soleye upfront. They are gelling well with each game and will be a bother for Viva Kerala. And in midfield they will have to do without an injured Roberto Mendes Silva. This means more workload for Climax Lawrence in the middle, still A.M. Sreedharan has a lot to worry about.
Having lost to Churchill Brothers in the previous game that cost them second place, Dempo coach Armando Colaco will be hoping for a quick return to the right track.
With four points from six matches, Viva Kerala are facing yet another relegation battle. Even though they played good football in the last four games, luck has not been on their side.
The visitors will be without Ghana defender Charles Dzisah – suspended for the match -- and right back Noushad, nursing an injury. Amarwant Singh or Sumit Thapa will partner Bello Razaq in the heart of defence.
There are concerns about the fitness of Sirajuddeen and if he misses out, Bimal Birua will take his spot in midfield. Viva Kerala's midfield will depend a lot on captain M.P. Sakeer, who has been performing consistently, to keep the supply line open. Thailand striker Wisut Bunpeng, who scored his first goal in the last game against Mahindra United, will support Reuben Senyo upfront.
Any result which yields a point will make Sreedharan and his boys' return journey home pleasant.
#Dempo take on Viva Kerala in Margao on Thursday, hoping to banish all memories of the defeat against Churchill Brothers in the previous round. Kerala, on the other hand, have impressed a lot lately, with some good performances in the last 2-3 rounds. The last meetings between the two sides were in the I-League two seasons ago, with the Goans scoring a total of eight goals in the two fixtures combined, letting in only one.
Must-Win Game...
Dempo had been labeled league favourites by many after they were topping the table following the first 4-5 rounds, but suddenly they lie in third place, with Chirag United and Churchill above them. The game against Churchill Brothers was arguably the game of the season so far, with quality players all over the pitch. However, some shoddy defending let Armando Colaco's side down at crucial moments, leading to a defeat which looked unlike going into the last 15 minutes.
However, one has to view that defeat with a steady mind. It's only the first game Dempo have lost, and it was Churchill they were up against, not a lesser side. The true test lies in how Dempo will react to that defeat and move forward. If they can do that, they will be up there within the mix at the end of the season, which by all means they should be, considering the squad they have.
Viva Kerala are no Churchill, but they're not the Viva Kerala of the first four rounds either. The introduction of Wisut Bunpeng has helped their cause immensely, while encouraging perforamances against Sporting, East Bengal, and Mahindra have boosted their confidence and self-belief. They will pose an interesting first game for Dempo after their first defeat in the league, that's for sure, and the Goans will need to take the three points to stay in touch with the league leaders.
Getting Into Gear...
Viva were down and out after the first four rounds of the league. Four defeats, zero goals scored, and the "crown" of being relegation favourites on their heads, they were staring down the barrel. However, a win against Sporting has really done wonders for them. It made them believe that they could indeed win games against quality sides in the league, and also, it made them believe that they could score goals.
The performances against East Bengal and Mahindra have been very impressive as well, and to be honest, Sreedharan's side should have won both those games. Wisut Bunpeng has been a fantastic addition to the squad, bubbling with creativity all the time, something Viva lacked early on. The clash against Dempo might be a David vs Goliath match-up on paper,
but in truth, it will be far from it. They are on a good run at the moment, and will be looking to end this phase of the league in style.
Form Guide
Dempo
Nov 8: Churchill Brothers 3-2 Dempo
Nov 1: Pune FC 1-1 Dempo
Oct 28: JCT 1-2 Dempo
Viva Kerala
Nov 6: Mahindra United 1-1 Viva Kerala
Nov 2: Viva Kerala 0-1 East Bengal
Oct 29: Viva Kerala 4-2 Sporting Clube de Goa
Team News
Dempo
Good news on this front for Armando Colaco, as he has a fully fit squad to choose from, apart from the long-term absentees like Mahesh Gawli, John Dias, and Sameer Naik, who are still out.
Viva Kerala
A few problems for the away side with regards to injuries and suspensions, as Naushad, Siraj, P Rahul, and Surjit all carrying injuries. Out of the four, Surjit is likely to recover in time for the game. Also, Charles Dzisah is suspended, and will play no part in the game.
Players To Watch
Dempo - Ranti Martins
If the Churchill game was a sign of things to come, Ranti Martins is well and truly back. He hasn't quite hit the heights of previous seasons in recent months, but the two goals against the champions will give him enough confidence to get back into the groove. The second of those goals is already a major contender for goal of the season.
Viva Kerala - MP Sakeer
Sakeer has been in fine form recently, and was brilliant against Mahindra United as well. The midfielder has also been likened to Cesc Fabregas by some of the Viva fans, and will be crucial to his side's attacking forays against Dempo.
Key Areas..
The key area in this game will be the Dempo defence. They were quite poor at times against Churchill, and showed what they're missing in Mahesh Gawli and Sameer Naik. If Dempo can keep out concentration lapses, then the game should be theirs, but don't be surprised if Viva Kerala spring a surprise and get some sort of a result at the Fatorda Stadium.

Bravo Presidente, eravamo sulla stessa lunghezza d'onda in India!
Tento qualcosa anche su una partita in programma quest'oggi:
Pune FC - Mohun Bagan AC 13.11 ore 14:00 (chiusura gioco su bwin ore 11:00)

Mohun Bagan
Pune FC
Pune FC have had one of the most unusual starts a team has ever had to a league season. It's not that any team hasn't gone win-less for so long in a season before, but the fact that they've drawn six out of their seven games so far, with their last four games ending 1-1, is quite a stat! Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, have been consistently inconsistent, winning three, losing three, and drawing one of their league fixtures.
Eighth Time Lucky?
Pune FC might have played seven I-League games, but little has changed from their first outing. Barring the defeat to Air India in their second game, they have drawn every single league match so far, almost always looking competitive, and in some cases, the better side. However, the lack of cutting edge in the final third has meant that they're only one of two teams to still be without a win. The other team, Sporting Clube de Goa, is bottom of the table.
They never came closer to victory than in their last two games, against Dempo and Lajong, both of which have been marred by late equalizers. The game against Lajong was going their way until the visitors were awarded a penalty as late as in the 92nd minute. Coach Derrick Pereira has since come out and bashed the refereeing in the league so far, claiming that bad decisions by the officials have cost them at least a win or two.
In Mohun Bagan, they play a top team, one which comes with a big reputation, so it's likely that the home fans should turn up for this one, also because it's the final round of the first phase of the league. They will need a stadium full of energy, but they will also need more than 100% effort from their attacking players, like Arata and Venkatesh, if they are to finally win on Friday.
Not Knowing What To Expect..
They started poorly, losing two out of two, won the next three in style, and then lost to struggling Mumbai FC. Mohun Bagan have been one of kings of consistency in the league so far, although there are many teams that could claim that crown. With ten points, they lie sixth in the table, having been overtaken by local rivals East Bengal on Wednesday evening, after they beat Lajong.
After beating Viva Kerala, East Bengal, and Lajong, Bagan looked a top side, one putting in very professional and clinical performances, but their last two games, against Mumbai FC and Sporting Clube de Goa, have left a lot to be desired. They lost against a rather hapless Mumbai side, and should have lost against Sporting, as their second half performance was non-existent.
Again, visiting Pune will not be easy. It's a new ground for the players to play at, a new pitch, and a different atmosphere altogether. Their experienced players like Marcos Pereira will have to come through in games like this, when the home crowd can put some pressure on the away side. Pune will defend well, and attack isn't their strong point. But then, defending isn't exactly Bagan's strength either.
Form Guide

Team News
Pune FC
Brazilian striker Edmar Figueira returns after serving a one match suspension.
Mohun Bagan
Jose Barreto and Sangram Mukherjee continue to be out of action for the Green and Maroons.
Players To Watch
Pune FC - Shanmugam Venkatesh
He has easily outshone the rest of the Pune FC players this season, often inspiring the others with his efforts on the pitch. He brings a certain element of experience and quality to the Pune FC midfield, and will be crucial to their chances against an experienced side like Bagan.
Mohun Bagan - Marcos Pereira
He took time to get going, but now Marcos certainly seems to have regained his form of last season. He's been doing his defensive duties quite well so far, but his quality has shown in certain moments, like the free kick against Lajong, and the goal against Sporting. With a packed stadium against the visiting side, Marcos' calmness and experience will help Bagan.
Key Areas
How Pune perform in the final third will determine the outcome of this game. Frankly, a draw is the likeliest result with Pune FC playing, but if Arata and co. get their act together, they can exploit what is a really shaky Mohun Bagan defence. If they don't, then they risk defeat, as Bagan have enough quality to score goals.

#Weather may spoil spoilsport in Pune-Bagan clash
Thursday, 12. November 2009 - Subhajyoti Banerjee
Weather conditions may come in way of the eighth-round I-League encounter between Pune FC and Mohun Bagan at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Friday.
The city experienced heavy showers in the past few days but the rains relented on Thursday and the match commissioner was satisfied with the state of the turf following an inspection.
The drainage system is working fine and the match commissioner will have another look at the ground on Friday before he gives the go ahead for the match.
Neither Mohun Bagan nor hosts Pune FC managed to train at the stadium on the eve of the match.
Mohun Bagan practised at the Bharati Vidyapeeth ground before rains forced them indoors where they had to be content with some drills. The same went for Pune FC, who trained at their practice pitch.
Mohun Bagan are presently sixth in the table with 10 points from seven matches while Pune FC are placed 10th with six points from the same number of matches.

Team News

Bisognava passare sereni.
Più convinto invece su una partita in programma domani:
Salgaocar SC - JCT Mills 14.11 ore 14:00
*Salgaocar face depleted JCT
Things haven't been going well for JCT on and off the field as they get ready to face Salgaocar in an away tie in Goa on Saturday aware they can't afford another slip.
The Punjab outfit made a quick start to the I-League with two victories against Shillong Lajong FC and Mohun Bagan, but have been winless thereafter. They have fallen back in the title race and now have to look at the other side of the table.
Off the field, Sukhvinder Singh left JCT after more then 17 years as head coach and manager to join the India set-up and take charge of the under-23 national team. JCT without Sukhvinder is kind of unimaginable, but it is now a reality which has left them shaken.
And then there was the bike accident. Striker Baljit Singh Sahni along with defender Sunil Kumar Thakur met with an accident on Tuesday night when the motorcycle they were travelling skidded near Margao station. Both had to be operated upon and would be out for a while.
This has left the team worried and weakened as well.
On the other side promoted Salgaocar have still not arrived at the top tier. American coach Tim Hankinson feels the team has to win before the I-League takes a break to keep them in high spirits for the Goa Pro League and the Federation Cup.
And he thinks his team needs more time to settle down as most of the crucial signings were done last month unlike teams like Dempo and Churchill Brothers, who have been playing together for some years with minor adjustments.
With six games gone Hankinson believes the journey is fairly good with three draws and a win against Sporting Clube de Goa and also some good performances on the road.
But the team only managed two points from three away games. Hankinson believes this is the moment to take advantage of playing at home. And with JCT reeling from their recent losses, Salgaocar couldn't ask for anything better.
*Salgaocar sign Mandjou Keita
Salgaocar SC yesterday signed 29 year old Guinean Mandjou Keita for the remainder of the I-League season.
If Keita's "International Transfer Clearance" comes through then he could be seen in action against JCT on November 14.
Keita, a striker who can also operate behind the strikers, is on loan from USL side Portland Timbers, a second tier club in the US and they will debut next season in the Major League Soccer.
Keita has played successfully in Asia before having played for Perak FA (Malaysia) and Brunei DPMM FC (Singapore) before moving to Portland Timbers this January.
Keita is a former captain of the Guinean Under-23 national team
